Free from Microsoft…finally! This download is for XP SP3 computers and later. provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
AVG Free AntiVirus 2012 32-bit
Free anti-virus program. Everyone absolutely needs anti-virus. Here is a free solution. Read the linked page for more instruction. You may need a key emailed to you to activate. Use this if Microsoft Security Essentials gives you issues.
FileZilla FTP Client Software
Free FTP program. Intuitive and easy to use. Did we mention free? Link takes you to downloads for Windows, Mac, and Linux versions.

Microsoft Windows Updates
An absolute must for all windows users. Dial-up can be slow, but still necessary. Set it up once and let it download in the background.
UltraVNC
Free remote control program. Download requires an unzipping program such as ‘WinZip’. UltraVNC allows file transfer in addition to remote control functions. Downloads found at the bottom of the page.
Windows XP Service Pack 3
A complete update and security patch rollup. No new features for standard users, but easier then running all the updates individually. Individuals can download this via Windows Update as found above. This is a link to the full package.
